Unwrap the block and cut into small, even cubes (about 1–2 cm). Uniform pieces melt more evenly and reduce local overheating.
Use a water bath / double boiler, or short microwave intervals with stirring. Target 75–80 °C. Our bases are formulated for good colour stability under high-temperature melt conditions.
When the base is fully liquid, stir in soap-safe colourants, then fragrance or essential oils (often about 0.5–2%; always test). Optional botanicals or exfoliants may be added at this stage. Stir slowly to limit air bubbles.
Pour into clean moulds on a level surface. A light mist of isopropyl alcohol can help collapse surface bubbles. Leave at room temperature until fully firm (often under an hour for small bars; longer for deep moulds). Unmould only when cool and solid. Avoid freezing, which can encourage surface moisture later.
Tip: prepare fragrance and colour before melting so the base does not start to skin over while you measure additives. Always run a small trial before a full production batch.
