Colorants that look perfect on day one and dull weeks later are a frequent topic in soap-making groups: “My color faded” or “the shade shifted after a few melts.”
Variables that affect color
UV light, some fragrance oils, high heat during melting, and the base itself all interact with dyes and pigments. No base can guarantee every colorant on the market — but a stable base helps.

Maker tips from common social advice
- Stay within the recommended melt range (for us: 75–80 °C; supports colour stability at elevated melt temperatures).
- Test each new color + fragrance combination in a small batch.
- Protect finished stock from strong sunlight.
- Record your percentages so successful batches are repeatable.
