SLS-Free Melt & Pour Soap Base: A Buyer’s Guide
Updated 2026-10-21 · Kosmos Toiletries
SLS-free soap base is a frequent request from brands that want a milder surfactant story on the label. Here is what wholesale buyers should understand before ordering bulk melt & pour.
What “SLS-free” means in M&P
SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) is a common foaming agent in many personal-care systems. An SLS-free transparent soap base is formulated without SLS, aimed at a gentler cleansing profile while still delivering usable foam and a clear bar appearance.
It is not the same claim as “soap-free” or “surfactant-free”. Always read the indicative INCI and your target market’s labelling rules.
When brands choose SLS-free
- Facial or sensitive-skin positioning
- Retail markets where shoppers look for “SLS-free” on packaging
- Private-label lines that need a differentiated transparent base
What to compare vs standard transparent base
- Foam and feel: may differ from high-foaming standard bases — trial in your process
- Clarity and hardness: still expect a professional clear block if the grade is designed for M&P
- MOQ: specialty grades are often made to order (with us, typically 1,000 kg)
- Documents: request TDS / MSDS / COA like any other wholesale base
Processing tips
Melt gently at about 75–80 °C. Avoid long holds at excessive temperature. Evaluate fragrance load and colour in a small batch before full production.
